We regret to inform you about the death of one of our compatriot colleagues Dr. Pierre Assalian.
Dr. Assalian was a member of the Department of Psychiatry at the MUHC for 45 years, joining the staff of the Montreal General Hospital in July 1975 under the directorship of Dr. Alan Mann.
One of his unique accomplishments was in the field of Human Sexuality․ He was the director of the Human Sexuality unit at the MGH since 1978 and was the first psychiatrist in Canada to be a certified sex therapist of the American Association of Sex Therapists. He was a leader in the clinical care of patients with gender dysphoria and sexual dysfunction as well as transgender patients and taught generations of students in psychiatry psychology and sexology. He was well recognized in the field of Sexual Medicine, published articles and book chapters on the subject, and also presented both nationally and internationally.
His role was very big in the development of Clinical Sexology in Armenia. During his visits to Armenia the lectures, case presentations, round table discussions, consultation of patients in the YSMU Department , and Clinic of Sexology were done. His work was significant in the field of sexual health in Armenia.
He was an honorary member of the Armenian Association of Sexologists.
Dear Bette and Pierre's family, we are deeply saddened by the loss that you and your family have encountered.
Please accept our sincere condolences for you and the family. Pierre was a very talented and remarkable man and will always be in our remembering. For those of us that had the privilege of calling him ''friend'', we were humbled by his kindness and compassion to everyone around him. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain...
